Mowing

Prior to mowing we watch for trash and tree limbs or obstructions. Turf will be completely and evenly mown at a height most suitable for the species and sites specific needs. In areas we cannot reach with the lawnmower, we will string trim the turf to the height of adjacent turf. We do not bag grass clippings. Turf grass research shows that by using proper mowers, it is better to return the clippings back to the turf for nutritional replenishment.  This process is called grass cycling and it’s a tremendous help to our environment.

Shrub Care

It is important to remember that pruning plants is a process, not an event.  There is no one-day of the year that all plants are to be pruned.  Each species has very specific pruning needs based on flower production and the growing season.  There will always be plants that require pruning in the landscape.  First priority is pruning for bloom production, second is structure pruning for plant development and third is space management.  Space management is most common in mature landscape environments.  We must contain plants within the spaces allocated during landscape design (This can be discussed for options on keeping plants contained in their area.). We work with our employees to help them understand most common landscape plants that are normally used in this area.  If you have an extensive planting with specialty items, we can discuss and get a plan to take care of those for you as well. The number of times some plants are pruned in a year varies from certain varieties. The listed number of times pruned on your estimate may vary based on the type plants you have. If there is extra pruning required, we would notify you before we did any pruning that would require any extra cost.

Edging

We will edge all concrete borders such as walkways, curbs, and driveways bi-weekly during the growing season with steel blade stick edgers. Bed lines that have an established edge will also be edged during the growing season. Late March –Mid October.

We are a full service lawn and landscape company. There is nothing we do not do!

Weeding

Shrub beds, natural areas with mulch and ground cover areas will be checked for weeds each visit. We use Round-Up herbicide bi-weekly on any weed that we can safely apply without injury to ornamental plants.  We hand pull weeds within the canopy of shrubs or ground covers. We use selective herbicides for persistent perennial weeds and grass control as needed. Your bed areas should remain 95% weed free.  There will always be some weeds present in a fertile growing environment. Our intention is to always control weeds with no injury to shrubs, ground covers, or trees.

Blowing & Cleanup

All concrete surfaces, driveways, curbs, walkways, patios, and decks will be blown clean of debris from the landscape maintenance process each visit. In the fall we will blow leaves out of plant bed areas, curbs, and driveways into the lawn area to be mulched with the mowers then blown into lawn and back into the bed areas and for natural fertilize. This is our normal process. Leaves will be blown into natural areas where possible otherwise they will be mulched.

Mulching

Pine straw is the mulch of choice for ornamental shrub beds and natural areas in this area. Dyed mulch has also become very popular as well. It benefits shrub beds by helping to retain moisture, control weeds, prevent erosion, protect from temperature extremes and to improve the appearance of our bed areas. This classification of work is critical to the overall success of our complete maintenance program. The fee quoted for mulch will include the following:

Delivery and installation of pine straw or mulch: Spread pine straw to a thickness of 3-to-4-inch layer. Blow all areas clean from installation and roll front edge of straw. Mulch is installed to 2-to-3-inch thickness in most cases, all areas are blown clean from installation.

Pine straw and mulch must be replenished a minimum of one time per year for our maintenance process to work as designed.  Pine straw that is located in a full sun exposure with frequent irrigation will deteriorate much more quickly than pine straw in natural areas that are shady and have no irrigation.  If your pine straw begins to look thin or its color does not look good, please contact our office staff about our mulch service.

Trash Removal

We remove as much of the clippings as possible and use the mulch mowers to mulch plant pruning materials for a natural fertilize and clean up any excess the mower misses from your landscape, We police trash on site (paper, cans, glass) and recycle glass and aluminum.  We utilize your trashcan for non-recyclables and paper.  We utilize mulching type lawn mowers to process leaves and pine straw from trees on your site.  Fall leaves are to be mulched and then placed into beds or natural areas on your property for composting.

How to Prepare your garden for winter

Seasonal Color

Seasonal color beds are used to draw attention to entryways of property, highlight sign areas or enhance views through the landscape.  There are two seasons in this area for annual flowers.  Summer annuals are installed in May. Winter annuals are installed in October. There are countless types of annual flowers, which are available in dozens of colors.  It is our job to recognize the specific site conditions you have and match the proper plants in a unique display.  We call the entire process our Flower Program or Seasonal Color. Services included are as follows:

  1. Pull and remove existing annual plants.
  1. Prune back any plants that encroach the bed.

We guarantee our annual flower program will provide you with a colorful display to enjoy and admire throughout the season.  We ask you to help monitor and water the plants daily during the first 2 weeks of establishment and water during periods of drought throughout the summer. Fall flowers attract wild life such as rabbits and deer. We are not responsible for any damage done by wild life.
